Mary Kathryn Martinson Designs // Giveaway

Hi guys,

I am so excited for today's post and you should be too, because at the end of this post there will be a giveaway for an awesome canvas!

A few months ago I was scrolling through Instagram and I came across this amazing painting of sorority letters by a girl named Mary Kathryn Martinson. I had honestly not seen any like it before. I instantly followed the account and kept telling myself that I had to place an order soon. When I decided to start blogging I knew the first person I wanted to link up with for a giveaway would be Mary Kathryn. After contacting Mary Kathryn, she was instantly on board for a giveaway and I was extremely excited.

To share a little about Mary Kathryn, she is currently a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. She is majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Photography. She is from Huntsville, Alabama and has a background in fine art. At SCAD there is not Greek Life, but when her friends from back home pledged different sororities, she began painting them their letters as a gift. This instantly turned into painting letters for their bigs, littles, and sisters. She now has paintings in 10 different states and has represented 14 sororities at 14 different schools.

Mary Kathryn was so generous as to paint me my own set of letters, and I must admit they are perfect.

One of my favorite things about Mary Kathryn's work is how much care she puts into each canvas. Each canvas is hand painted so no two are exactly alike. Also she takes time to package them in the most adorable ways. (She used my sorority colors for the ribbon!)

She also is quick with her work. Once I contacted her about this post, she had my letters painted and sent out within a week, which is really awesome. I am 100% positive that my future little will be receiving her own personal set of letters from Mary Kathryn.

Now for the part you've all been waiting for. Mary Kathryn has so graciously agreed to paint a personalized 8x10 monogram initial canvas for one lucky winner. You can enter this giveaway through the Rafflecopter entry below.

Snow Day DIY

If you haven't heard by now, the south recently experienced a Snowpocalypse! While I had two days off of class, I made sure to use my time wisely. Therefore, I put off all my homework and crafted. I also slept, ate, and frolicked in the snow (pics coming soon)!

One of my favorite crafts I did on my snow day was this awesome collage for one of our new baby squirrels!

It was quite simple to make. All it required was a canvas, modge podge, and some AGD related things.

You simply glue your images on the canvas and paint over it with modge podge to seal it. I added the flowers and ribbon last to give it a 3-D look.

Also, I will be having another craft I completed be on That Little Brunette in the next few days, so keep your eye out for that!

Until then,

Beth

Your Sorority Sister Campus Rep

Today while at work, I opened my email and saw I had mail from Your Sorority Sister! I was so excited when I realized that I had been chosen as a campus rep for Mercer University to share my experiences with my sorority on this blog for girls world-wide to read.

I am quite excited to have been offered this opportunity, and I look forward to sharing my insights and experiences with sorority life with all of ya'll soon!

Christmas DIY

Normally for Christmas I go out and buy myself something nice. Usually I buy myself a new pair of shoes or a new sweater but this year was a little different. Being in college has depleted my bank account and I was not able to purchase myself something new. Instead, I decided to do a DIY project for myself with items I had in my house. I searched Pinterest until I found the perfect project.

I present to you my new squirrel wall art:

This project is actually very simple and I encourage anyone to give it a try. It takes very few supplies and I finished it in a little over a day. (the paint had to dry overnight....)

The first step is to gather your supplies:

  • Canvas
  • Paint/Paintbrush
  • Old Magazines
  • Modge Podge
  • Scissors
  • Silhouette of the animal/object you would like

Then simply want to paint your canvas and let it dry.

While it's drying you should look through magazines and rip out pages with backgrounds and colors that you like. (I chose mostly blues and florals for my squirrel.) Cut those pages into strips about half and inch wide. (You can also stagger short and long strips.)

After that, you should get a silhouette of the animal/object you are interested in making. You can freehand this if you like but I pulled up an image on google on my laptop and traced it onto paper. Then you cut out the silhouette and glue your strips to the silhouette. Once the glue dries you modge podge the animal/object to the canvas and you are finished.

If you give this a try, let me know what you chose to do!

Stay Crafty,

Beth
